3D DIGITAL WOODWORKING MACHINERY CATALOGUE

The Interactive 3D digital catalogue of woodworking machinery, is a virtual simulator that can be used as an innovative and free teaching resource for students studying woodworking and furniture vocational training.

ANDALUSIAN EMPLOYMENT SERVICE AWARD 2023 - Good practices for Innovation and Experimentation in the field of vocational training in the Production, Carpentry and Furniture category.

Objectives.

  • Allow students to identify and become familiar with this type of machinery in a completely safe manner.
  • Provide an immersive, interactive and entertaining learning experience.
  • Dedicate workshop sessions to using the machines, following virtual training through simulation.
  • Simulate visiting woodworking facilities and accessing the virtual machine to observe its operation without switching it on.

Description.

  • The catalogue includes 3D models of 21 woodworking machines of varying complexity.
  • They are modelled in 3D using the machinery commonly used in woodworking workshops as a reference.
  • The user interface of the simulator allows any of the machines to be selected. It is also possible to access a particular machine via virtual reality markers, which are expected to be located in the centre's workshops.
  • The virtual recreation of the machine must allow the user to interact with it: move around the machine, zoom in and out, rotate the machine in any direction, select its different elements, as well as allowing a simulation of its operation.
  • This virtual recreation is accompanied by text and multimedia elements (audio, videos, animations) explaining all the relevant aspects of the machine: parts, use, safety rules, etc.
  • Learning is enhanced by including gamified activities and teaching suggestions.
  • The catalogue includes a technical data sheet for each machine in a downloadable and printable format.
  • It has been developed by the CRN for Wood and Cork Transformation and Installation as part of its Work Plans and financed by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE).
